ISLA (1998-1999)

I.S.L.A.was a transnational project carried out in Austria, Finland and Spain to monitor the use of Information and Communication Technology (I.C.T.) by Local Authorities/Municipalities ranging from 5,000 to 120,000 inhabitants.

The Information Society in Local Areas

I.S.L.A. was aimed at fostering the construction of the European Information Society at a local level by identifying the best practices, and by creating a network to follow up the initiatives of Local Authorities, publicising them among the Municipalities within the EU.

This network also included a package of basic telematic services to support the start-up of new I.C.T. municipal services to citizens, SMEs and other local actors.

The project was co-financed by I.S.P.O. (the Information Society Project Office of the EU) and carried out by Ancitel (Italy), KDZ (Austria), Novogroup (Finland) and Femp (Spain). These partners worked closely with their respective national Associations of Municipalities and were part of ELANET (The European Local Authorities' Telematic Network Initiative), which was involved in the publicising of results.
